Gray and Keys in ‘Black and White Minstrel Show’
TV News: Following their departure from Sky Sports, Andy Gray and Richard Keys have been approached by Channel 5 boss Richard Desmond to star in his flagship entertainment show ‘The All-New Black and White Minstrel Show’.
Desmond has been developing new broadcasting strategies for the revitalised channel and today described a Gray/Keys family entertainment partnership as ‘the jewel in our crown’.
“Sky’s loss is our gain,” Desmond told reporters. “Personally, I still can’t understand what they did wrong. Others might get their politically correct knickers in a twist, but here at Five we’re all about being edgy and pushing boundries. We’ve been fine-tuning the minstrel concept for months, and since the Krankies’ disappearance a week ago these two fit the bill perfectly.”
Other shows to feature in Channel Five’s new weekend line-up include Topless Dwarves, ‘Saturday Night Death – Live!’ featuring live executions from a Saudi football stadium, and a sitcom called ‘Happy Endings’ starring John Leslie and based in a massage parlour.
Friday nights will also see the return of that show where Keith Chegwin got his willy out in the jungle.
“I liked that,” said Desmond, “and my philosophy has always been ‘if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it’.”
