Daniel Day-Lewis Preparing For Donkey Role In School Nativity Play
Acting News: Respected actor Daniel Day-Lewis has confirmed plans to play the part of the donkey in an upcoming junior school nativity play.
“I’m looking forward to returning to the stage in what will be my most ambitious role yet,” said the 55-year-old actor, who is famous for his method acting style and intense performances in such films as There Will Be Blood and Gangs Of New York.
Day-Lewis’ agent has confirmed that he has already started getting into character to play the role of the donkey at the St Stephen’s Junior School Nativity play this year, by bedding down in a nearby stable and switching to a 90% hay diet.
“The donkey plays an integral role in Mary and Joseph’s journey to Bethlehem and we expect Mr. Day-Lewis to bring a mesmerising and unique take on the character,” said the plays director, drama teacher Susan Isitt.
“Although I am a bit worried he’ll improvise a scene in which he beats the innkeeper to death with a block of Myrrh.”
