Bicycle Given As Christmas Present Begins Journey To Rusty Heap

Gift News: A bike bought at the height of Olympic fever and given as a present this Christmas has begun its journey to becoming a useless rusty heap.

Danny Fietsen, 36, bought the bike for his seven-year-old son, who became obsessed with cycling this summer after Bradley Wiggins won the 2012 Tour de France and seven Olympic medals.

“At the time all my lad would talk about was bikes and Bradley Wiggins,” said Fietsen.

“He even made some fake sideburns out of cardboard and complained if we made him wear anything other than spandex shorts – so I bought him a bike for Christmas. And now that bike is neglected and rusting next to the shed. It’s like kids have really short attention spans or something.”

Fietsen is still hopeful that the bike might be useful later in the year.

“He’s really into all these David Attenborough documentaries on TV right now – so if he develops an interest in wildlife, in a couple of months we can go and look at all the bird shit that’s covered the bike.”
