While the long hot summer is still a fresh – somewhat sticky – memory there’s no escaping the fact that Christmas is around the corner – and UKTV channel Gold are again looking for the best modern Christmas cracker jokes in a bid to get the country roaring with laughter.

A poll conducted by Gold found that 70% of cracker jokes make us groan rather than giggle – clearly the Chrimbo gag is in desperate need of a 21st Century makeover.

Last year’s competition got hundreds of entries, with contemporary corker “What does Miley Cyrus have at Christmas? Twerky.” crowned the winner.

Gold want you to come up with the best modern festive jokes that put a comedy twist on the current news agenda or pop culture phenomenons to keep the laughter fresh this Christmas.

The competition is open until 28th October, with the winner getting holiday vouchers worth £1,500 and a chance to feel like a member of the royal family by having their very own personalised Christmas crackers made.

Nine runners-up will get a Xmas hamper and a box of Gold crackers.

HOW TO ENTER
Open to all aged above 18, the jokes must be suitable for a family audience and must be original content. To enter please:

– Tweet a Christmas-themed joke via your personal Twitter account including the hashtag #GoldCrackers

– The joke must not be more than 140 characters including the hashtag.

– Multiple entries are allowed.

– Must be original jokes.

– Follow @GoldTVChannel (so we can notify the winners)

For further information on the terms and conditions please visit the Gold website. The competition opens on Tuesday 7th October, 2014 at 9am and will close on Tuesday 28th October, 2014 at 6pm.

The best jokes will be shortlisted by a comedy panel led by critic Bruce Dessau and then put to a public vote – with the top ten best new jokes being announced in December.
