Birthday balloons mistaken for Islamic State initials

A Swedish woman’s 21st birthday was ruined when police raided her house after they thought two balloons that said “21” was “IS”, short for Islamic State, reports Russia Today.

The balloons – which had been put up to celebrate Sarah Ericsson’s birthday last weekend – were noticed by a passerby, who called the police after seeing what they thought was a symbol supporting IS.

Ericsson told The Local, “We understand why someone would report it if they thought it looked like IS propaganda, although everyone else just thought it looked like the number ’12’ from outside.”
