Netflix to launch ‘reduced’ service in North Korea

The streaming service has announced plans to launch in North Korea, with a ‘reduced’ selection that offers both original programmes and videos of explosions they got from YouTube.

“With Netflix now available in over 190 countries, it makes perfect sense that we expand and offer our services in North Korea,” said Netflix CEO Reed Hastings.

“Naturally due to the nature of the government in North Korea we had to agree to restrict the service, but we will offer such categories as ‘dramas celebrating the glorious leader’, ‘documentaries praising the glorious leader’ as well as ‘scenes from Hollywood films that depict the destruction of the capitalist Western pigs’. There’s something for everyone.”

Hastings was keen to add that the service will suffer from zero buffering. “Basically Kim Jong-un is the only one in North Korea with internet access, so I doubt the servers will ever get overloaded.”

“Besides, the average North Korean has plenty of things to get on with instead of binge watching Netflix – they’re too busy starving to death or being rounded up to spend the rest of their short lives in a forced labour camp.”
