Good news! Edinburgh Zoo’s resident King penguin has been promoted to Brigadier by Norwegian King’s Guard
You might have read about Sir Nils Olav before, the King penguin at Edinburgh zoo (the third of that name since 1972) who was already a knight, but today was made a Brigadier by the King of Norway’s Guard – the Royal bodyguards and the main infantry unit responsible for the defence of Oslo. Here’s Brigadier Sir Olav inspecting his troops and getting a medal. And scratching himself.
Of course this being the internet age, the promotion didn’t go without some controversy.
Travesty that Nils Olav I wasnt knighted like his successor, I say. pic.twitter.com/EuOSl42g7s

Brigadier Sir Nils Olav has a slightly different understanding of who exactly the Navy SEALS are. pic.twitter.com/kcxpt2Wz3f
