Donald Trump skips White House dinner and everyone wants Alec Baldwin to replace him
Donald Trump has provoked widespread ridicule by becoming the first US president since Ronald Reagan in 1981 to skip the annual White House correspondents dinner.
I asked Trump if he would be attending the White House Correspondents Dinner.
He said: “No. Do you like that?”

Reagan had a good excuse to avoid the dinner where the president and their administration are given a light-hearted “roasting” – he’d just been shot. Trump just doesn’t want to have the piss taken out of him.
I will not be attending the White House Correspondents’ Association Dinner this year. Please wish everyone well and have a great evening!

Still, at least there’s an obvious stand-in – Alec Baldwin, who mercilessly mocks the president with his Trump impression on Saturday Night Live.
Dear White House Correspondents Association: Please ask Alec Baldwin to stand in for Donald Trump at your annual dinner. Thank you.

Methinks Alec Baldwin should replace Donald Trump. It wouldn’t make any difference #WhiteHouseCorrespondentsDinner ha-ha! pic.twitter.com/WdF5teJ4VL

If @AlecBaldwin fills in for @realDonaldTrump at the Correspondents dinner, a bit of karmic balance might be restored to the universe.

Since Trump is not attending the White House Correspondents dinner, Alec Baldwin should go in his place.
Trump not attending the White House Correspondents' Dinner is like a 5-year-old refusing to come out of their room on their birthday.

I can't believe Trump's missing his only chance to go as President to the annual White House Correspondents' Dinner.

Retweet if you want Alec Baldwin to fill in for Donald Trump at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner on April 29th. pic.twitter.com/Lybv3PhixH

Maybe Trump is skipping the White House Correspondents Dinner because Obama did this to him in 2011. pic.twitter.com/Sv7rgXmj47

Or maybe they should just go down the Have I Got News For You? route and empty-chair the president. Maybe put this in his place instead.
Or maybe this will happen. Maybe not.
He’s back and I still love him. pic.twitter.com/U5EyXRvGwO

Here’s some more reaction on Twitter.

Reagan skipped the WHCD because he was recovering from being shot. Trump will skip the dinner because he's recovering from Alec Baldwin.

And the great man in action. That’s Baldwin, not Trump.
