Manchester newspaper criticised for doorstepping grannies in Oxfam shop in response to “Haiti prostitutes scandal”

A slow handclap for the enterprising journalists at The Bolton News who took the Times story about aid workers sexually abusing locals in Haiti and doorstepped some grannies in their local Oxfam shop.

“You asked some baffled granny behind the counter in an Oxfam shop what they reckon about sex work in Haiti?”

We had to check this was true and not a screengrab of a parody site but it checks out:

“STAFF at Oxfam’s Bolton shop remained tight-lipped yesterday, refusing to comment on the scandal engulfing the charity.

“One staff member at the shop in Blackburn Road said that they had been advised not to comment.”

The reaction on Twitter was largely mockery

Utterly ridiculous.
