Gary Lineker totally smashing Piers Morgan’s tired referendum argument and 11 other responses to the #peoplesvote debate

Legendary England footballer and pundit, Gary Lineker, has backed calls for a people’s vote on whatever deal the Brexit negotiations throw up, with an option to remain in the EU, overturning both Article 50 and the results of the 2016 referendum.

“I spent most of the last few weeks totally focused on a fantastic World Cup.

But it was impossible to avoid what was happening in the Brexit debate back home.

Now I’m back I find the whole thing more bewildering and worrying than ever.
Whether you voted Leave or Remain, did anyone really vote for the mess we seem to be in, let alone the prospect of no deal with all the terrible consequences attached to that?

The politicians seem unable to resolve the problem the people gave them in voting to Leave.

That is why I think there should be a People’s Vote on the final deal, and why I am sending best wishes and good luck to the campaigners who will be stepping up the pressure over the summer.”

With negotiations having achieved little to nothing and an eleventh-hour change of personnel, this seems like a great idea to many people, but evidence of a Remain conspiracy to others.

These 11 tweets show the state of the debate.

But a lot of the pro-Brexit lobby made the same joke.

If you pay any attention at all to Twitter, you’ll know that Gary Lineker has had a long-running love-hate relationship with TV presenter, Piers Morgan – we love to watch them argue and they hate each other. So, it was inevitable that Morgan would weigh in on the news. He did it in a highly original way.

[Narrator: He didn’t.]

But, as is so often the case, Gary swatted his argument out of the air with little effort.
