The internet is divided on whether Bert and Ernie are gay – the 22 funniest reactions
Writer Mark Saltzman has an impressive resumé of children’s entertainment, with such credits as Blue’s Clues, Snoopy the Musical and Rock With Barney to his name. However, it’s because of his role as a writer on Sesame Street that he is a topic of conversation at the moment. In an interview with gay online magazine, Queerty, Mark stated that he thought of Bert and Ernie as a gay couple.

This wasn’t a new idea, having long been a subject of speculation, but it seemed to be coming straight from the horse’s mouth. However, other horses had something to say on the matter. Sesame Workshop issued a statement.
“Bert and Ernie are best friends,” it said. “They were created to teach preschoolers that people can be good friends with those who are very different from themselves.
“Even though they are identified as male characters and possess many human traits and characteristics (as most Sesame Street Muppets do), they remain puppets and do not have a sexual orientation.”
Muppet creator, Frank Oz added to that.
It seems Mr. Mark Saltzman was asked if Bert & Ernie are gay. It's fine that he feels they are. They're not, of course. But why that question? Does it really matter? Why the need to define people as only gay? There's much more to a human being than just straightness or gayness.

While you are all debating whether Bert and Ernie are gay you are all forgetting that Gonzo, a puppet from space, actively fucks chickens.

Bert and Ernie aren't a couple. They're exes who still live together and whose excessive emotional involvement with each other prevents them from forming new, healthy romantic relationships.

If Bert and Ernie are not gay they're not gay but your excuse can't be that they're puppets. Kermit and Miss Piggy are in an on again/off again relationship and a muppet wedding between them is even a major feature of the most recent movie
