16 novel takes on World Book Day

World Book day is supposed to celebrate reading, but has slowly turned into Halloween-lite, as schoolchildren are urged to turn up dressed as book characters. This can lead to a great deal of stress for parents – and teachers – but also to impressive creativity, not to mention the sad faces of parents telling their local paper their offspring were sent home for dressing as Fred and Rose West.
