This comparison of what people see with (and without) astigmatism is a real eye-opener
This comparison of what people see with (and without) astigmatism went viral because, well, it’s a real eye opener.
Seriously.
It’s a Twitter feed called Unusual Facts which deals with the ‘most weird and horrific facts on the internet’. This one was weird rather than horrific and it also blew people’s minds.
Astigmatism is when the cornea is slightly curved rather than completely round..
With astigmatism, light focuses on several points of the retina rather just one point. This is what people with Astigmatisms vs without. pic.twitter.com/RXWWayFBRJ

People with Astigmatisms …
… and without!
We still can’t get our head around it.
And here’s just a glimpse of the huge – and we mean huge – reaction that it prompted when the post went wildly viral on Twitter.
Wait people can see lights normally? I thought everyone saw those lines-

…my life and seeing is a lie, I thought everyone saw the lines
— Ambient Quetzalcoatl (@AmbientGryph) March 25, 2019
Holy shit I thought everyone saw the lines, when I was litttle I would squint to make em longer to entertain myself, thought that was normal

Us too, us too.

astigmatism makes it so hard to drive at night

It does indeed. We’re with this person.

But not everyone believed it, including one person who suggested this.
‘This one on the left is totally wrong. this is literally from a phone with dirty lens. with astigmatism you have blurry vision or in some cases more distorted vision but no such stripes.’
But there was no shortage of people putting them right.
Sir, as someone with astigmatisms. And many others have said on this very thread. This is accurate to how we see the world. Light streaks across our vision making it very difficult at night. Believe me when I say, I can look out my window and see just that.

I second this. I have 20\20 vision, but I have astigmatism too. The left is exactly how lights look for me. Maybe you’re also short sighted or something?
— Rylinu (@ryrylinu) March 25, 2019
In short …
This is really fucking me up tonight. I never realised the light lines were from my astigmatism, I just thought that’s how light worked at night. https://t.co/iQh2H8PTwZ
