Toby Young claimed the UK has become less racist since the EU referendum – 9 perfect takedowns

Toby Young is the king of the bad take, having previously complained about climate change activist Greta Thunberg being “privileged”, criticised Penguin Random House for championing diversity and declared support for right-wing manipulator, Steve Bannon, to name but a few.

After actor David Harewood described the “ugliness” unleashed by Brexit, Toby Young chipped in with yet another very on-brand comment. This was David Harewood’s point.

And this was Young’s petulant clapback.

He followed it up with a string of statistics showing a drop in racist incidents which he thought proved his point, but he included this disclaimer:

Which means that the only thing his data showed was that racist incidents had been declining during an era of freedom of movement within the EU. Well done, that Brexiter.

Toby Young may not have been able to find any post-2016 figures, but the Home Office could, with a notable climb in race-hate crime coinciding with the rise in discussion about Brexit.
