Peter Sissons – not only a great newsreader but with this Anne Robinson clip, responsible for an all-time great outtake
Sad news today that Peter Sissons has died aged 77.
The former BBC and ITN newsreader also presented BBC1’s Question Time and was described by BBC director general Tony Hall as ‘one of the great television figures of his time’.
Here are just some of the many, many tributes being paid to him today.
I met Peter Sissons on my first day as an ITN trainee. He said: “You’re going to be taught all sorts of stuff about pictures and cameras and sound and editing. But there’s only one thing that matters – the words”. He was right. Fine man, fine journalist. https://t.co/g7N7OeVTYO

Very sad to hear of death of Peter Sissons, at relatively young age of 77. He was superb TV reporter, & pioneer presenter of ITV News at One, & first in-depth news on C4, brilliant at conducting short studio interviews with people in power. BBC never made best of Peter’s talents

Sad to hear Peter Sissons has died. He came into the studios when he was publishing his autobiography.
Before he was a journo he was a ticket collector on Liverpool buses.
People would ask "Does this bus stop at the Pierhead?"
He'd reply "Well if it doesn't we'll all get wet."

He also had some rather famous friends at school, one in particular.

And along with his many, many achievements and awards, he was also responsible for this all-time great outtake, talking about Anne Robinson.

Definitely not the weakest link.
I've just been reminded of this, which does seem to indicate that the late Peter Sissons was indeed one of us. Remember him this way. https://t.co/R9rXKnTTRE
