21 favourite funny tweets about the Beatles documentary
Back in 1970, Michael Lindsay-Hogg made a documentary about the recording of the Beatles’ final studio album, Let It Be. It had a running time of 80 minutes and included the iconic footage of the rooftop performance that stopped traffic on and around Savile Row, before being shut down by the police.
51 years later, Lord of the Rings director and Beatles superfan, Peter Jackson, has made a three-part series out of the unseen footage, and it shines a fresh light on the band’s dynamic at that time.
“For me it’s lovely because it brings back to me; my mates, my fallen heroes, who aren’t here. It’s great to see them on the film…”

Watching Paul come up with “Get Back” out of literally thinking air while Ringo and George just yawn is a marvel to watch. This Beatles documentary is INSANE #TheBeatlesGetBack pic.twitter.com/09Nii0tHqr

One of the best parts of #TheBeatlesGetBack is Paul’s first reaction to Billy Preston improvising his keyboard solo in “I’ve Got a Feeling” – and the fifth Beatle is found: pic.twitter.com/UbwEZmMl9M

The real lesson I learned from first episode isn’t what a taskmaster Paul McCartney was. It’s what a savant he is. This reputation has diminished over time. But wow. #TheBeatlesGetBack

But Twitter being what it is, there had to be jokes – and we really enjoyed these.

Paul McCartney = managing editor who does all the work and annoys everyone
John Lennon = writer at large who does very little actual writing but goddamnit when he does…
George Harrison = freshly unionized staff writer
