This journalist had a brutal truth for Americans shocked that Russians believe Vladimir Putin’s propaganda
Over on the MSNBC news channel in the US, journalist Julia Ioffre was happy to help Americans confused by one element of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
Specifically, those Americans who are shocked that Russians would believe Vladimir Putin’s propaganda.
Ioffe: Every time I’m asked by Americans do Russians really believe this stuff… as if we don’t have the same thing happening here. You have 40% of the American population that was convinced in just one year that Donald Trump actually won the 2020 election… pic.twitter.com/xZfXd0YMPo

And it had the internet cheering (well, all apart from that 40%, presumably).
As a journalist who also covers U.S. politics, I can certainly say that Americans buy into the same ignorance as Russians. @juliaioffe is much more polite about saying it than I would have been. LOL. https://t.co/nUZgJjJf60

It's true. At least a third of Americans believe all kinds of nonsense and lies. But at least here there are still legitimate sources of news available. In Russia, everyone is forced to watch the Russian equivalent of Fox "News". They've been lied to for years. https://t.co/IdAGoTfV52

In the US a third of Americans refuse to get vaccinated against a deadly pathogen because they believe a billionaire put tracking devices in the vaccines, so yeah–shocker that Russians believe Putin. Trumpists were ready to drink bleach when Trump told them to. https://t.co/LRyA4vSnns
