This boss who made a ‘veiled threat’ was given a taste of his own medicine and it’s perfect

Over in the corner of Reddit called ‘antiwork’ people share stories of outrageous bosses being given exactly what was coming to them and this is a classic of the genre.

It’s an employer who made a ‘veiled threat’ to staff who (entirely reasonably) had logged on a few minutes late.

So this particular staffer made a veiled threat of their own and he didn’t like it, he really didn’t like it at all.

‘Apparently they don’t like it when you respond to a veiled threat with a veiled threat,’ said Redditor Watsis_name.

And here’s what they had to say.

Boom.

‘Yeah, they only like to make the threats not receive them. You didn’t threaten him just his usefulness as a manager.’

‘Any manager in an office environment who makes a big stink about starting or ending the day late/early is a bad manager and a control freak.

‘I’ve been a manager at large company for 10 years. If you get your work done and don’t miss important meetings then I couldn’t give a shit the hours you work or how much time you take off.’

‘Sounds like he is trying to find an excuse to bring people back.’

‘If you’re having a bitch fit over people logging into Teams at 8:35am, then definitely. What the hell is this guy’s role? Babysitter or a manager/leader of people?’

‘Years ago I had an 8-5:00 salary job and I worked my ass off not worrying about the hours. One week I worked until 9 or 10:00 at night every day, then on Friday I came in 15 minutes late. It was a beautiful spring day, so when I was asked why I was late I was honest and said I stopped to grab coffee and the line was longer than I expected.

‘Well, I got the full riot act for being late. After that I was never late, and promptly left at 5:00 no matter what important project was pending. It caused chaos.

‘A couple months later I found a better job, and my current employer gushed about how great and appreciated I was, and what could they offer me to stay. I said “too late, I accepted the other position.”

‘Being shitty and disrespectful to employees is the fastest way to chase the best ones out.’

‘So like that’s a thing that matters to him. 5 minutes of inactivity in teams? What a miserable existence that has to be. If the work gets done to a high standard, F*CK OFF.’
