Dominic Raab said Boris Johnson told the truth ‘to the best of his ability’ and it’s the truest thing he’s ever said
Despite his best efforts to make it all go away, the Partygate saga continues to dog Boris Johnson after police issued 20 fixe penally notices for breaches of Covid rules in Downing Street.
Johnson is said to be unlikely to be among them but police have said there is a ‘significant amount nt of investigative material that remains to be assessed’, raising the prospect of plenty more fines to come.
The prime minister has consistently denied any wrongdoing, and his deputy Dominic Raab was asked whether he’d misled MPs and his answer might be the truest thing he’s ever said.
Does the buck stop with Boris Johnson on these #partygate fines?

Told the truth ‘to the best of his ability’ is a euphemism for ‘the prime minister is a compulsive liar.’ pic.twitter.com/r11qTogBa4

“the best of his ability”? What the hell does that even mean? He’s not being asked to divulge state secrets, well not by me. The question was “Did you throw/attend parties at a time when parties were illegal?” The answer is a straight yes or no. One is the truth, one a lie.

If the best of Johnson's ability is that, when he tries to tell the truth he still ends up lying, then it could be argued that maybe he doesn't have enough ability to lead the government. https://t.co/mCWtb1Poww

And just in case you still can’t get enough Raab, he was also on BBC Breakfast today. Different channel, same … well, you know the rest.
Sally Nugent – If a Minister lies to Parliament should they resign?
Dominic Raab – Yes
Jon Kay – What Boris Johnson said to Parliament wasn't true.. should he resign?
Dominic Raab – It's just not right to say Boris Johnson misled Parliament.. 🤔#BBCBreakfast pic.twitter.com/HQcUkTTCFb

To conclude …
According to his deputy “the prime minister told the truth to the best of his ability”. The trouble is his complete inability to tell the truth. That’s why he’s not fit to lead this country.
