The Question Time audience laughing at this Tory MP defending Boris Johnson really does say it all
Few things capture Boris Johnson’s standing in the eyes of the nation (or, at least, a large part of it) than this Question Time moment when Tory MP Maria Caulfield sprang to the defence of her beloved leader.
It’s not what the Conservative member for Lewes had to say – well, it is – but mostly it’s the audience’s responses to her suggestion the prime minister ‘genuinely did not believe there was wrong-doing’ at Downing Street during lockdown.

One of those few occasions when the Question Time audience really does speak for everyone.
1.
Just the #bbcqt audience pissing themselves laughing at the lying @Conservatives‘ absurd claim that serial liar Boris Johnson “genuinely does not believe that there was any wrongdoing” at the #DowningStreetParties.

Ooh Victoria Derbyshire 💞 The QT audience love her, we love her, she’s telling the truth about the events around Partygate.
Will she ever be allowed on Question Time again? https://t.co/F8IFl3ereH

Applause to @VicDerbyshire who brilliantly stepped in for Fiona Bruce tonight on #BBCQT … and to the Bath audience for openly laughing at Maria Caulfield defence of the despicable @BorisJohnson. pic.twitter.com/Eq6GryqbX7
