Just when you thought your hackles couldn’t rise any further after Boris Johnson and Rishi Sunak were fined over Partygate, along comes Tory MP Michael Fabricant to defend the prime minister and his chancellor.

And in a world where your jaw no doubt drops on a regular basis, this really is a properly jaw-dropping defence.

I heard that comment. There is not a single school or hospital in the UK that would allow alcohol on the premises. It would be instant dismissal. It’s a hideous thing to say about those people who kept us all going and who literally saved lives.

“Our staff room was out of bounds. It was permanently out of use. We weren’t allowed in there. And I think you’ll find that if anyone HAD been in allowed in the staff room, they’d have been drinking a cuppa, not a bottle of wine”. 😡
