A teacher asked 6-year-olds to invent a new Olympic sport and their suggestions are pure gold
You may remember reading the hilarious and often brilliant answers given by a group of five- and six-year-olds when their teacher asked them what they’d do if they became ‘World President’.
That teacher was George Pointon, and his class – a different set of children – have had another challenge.
I asked a group of 6 year olds "Invent a new Olympic sport"
These will be rated.
A THREAD— George Pointon (@GeorgePointon_) April 29, 2022
The youngsters stepped up, and we’d probably be more interested in the Olympics if some of these were included.
1.
Rory – "Bowling running"
You run 10k, which seems fine. However, you are also being thrown bowling balls and need to knock down pins as you go. You are scored on time and number of pins you knockdown. It's a real test of speed and skill. A great start to our Olympics games. 7/10

2.
JJ – "Swimming underwater as far as you can"
This sounds tense. So, you must submerge yourself and see how far you can go underwater. You can come up for three breaths anytime. I'm sorry but that is singlehandedly the greatest bit of TV. I hope it's not already invented. 9.5/10

3.
Jack – "Karate"
I explained to him that karate is already an Olympic event but he insisted. A few rule changes in his version though. Weapons are allowed and you can also bring a friend to help. Less karate, more attitude era WWE. Would I actually watch it? Yes, I would. 6/10.

4.
Ravi – "The Great Climb"
Athletes begin at the bottom of a mountain. They must race to the top. Once they reach the peak, they must mountain bike to the bottom to secure a victory. A big marathon event. The constant fear of death makes this certainly a watchable event. 7.5/10

5.
Lola – "Speed Sleeping"
Simple. Quickest person to fall asleep wins. The twist here is loud, horrible noises will be played at random and sporadic times. Everything from car alarms, explosions to Ed Sheeran's music. It would make an excellent watch and I'm all for it! 8/10

6.
Emma – "Hide and seek swimming"
Inside of a giant fishtank. Athletes must hide and seek their competitors, while simultaneously trying to not die. Can I count this as a sport? I don't know, it's more like something from Squid Game. However, I would tune in to see it. 8.5/10.

7.
Belle – "Paddling Pool Blow Up"
Over the holidays Belle's dad blew up a paddling pool. He said "this should be a sport". Belle listened and invented the P.P.B.U. Athletes must blow up a fully deflated paddling pool in the hight of summer. A test of true patience and lungs. 6/10

8.
Mikey – "Dog Fighting"
I was worried when this was originally pitched but it's not what you think. It's basically UFC but you have to remain on all fours and only use open palms. You can bark. Not sure why though. Interesting idea but I would probably watch just the final. 5/10

9.
Zahra – "Pitch Black Tag"
This is a game invented by her older brother but she'd still like it in the Olympics. In total darkness, one person must catch the other before they find the door. I asked how fans would watch this and it's advanced night vision so that's sorted. 7/10
— George Pointon (@GeorgePointon_) April 29, 2022
10.
Susanna – "Duck Jump"
There is no hidden meaning here. This sport is exactly as it sounds. One must jump over a duck. Athletes will be scored on flair only. The duck is normal sized. I'm not sure why anyone would watch this, saying that, I would tune in out of curiosity. 2/10.

BONUS ANSWER
Alex (age 15) – "Build a house with your spouse"
Sounds more like a mad gameshow, but a married couple must build a house from scratch. Included with electrics, water and windows. Not sure if it's suitable for the Olympics but none the less, a great watch. 8.5/10
