Keir Starmer’s brutal takedown of Boris Johnson and his Cabinet was his best joke ever
Labour leader Keir Starmer has previously been accused of being a little bit less than dynamic during Prime Minister’s Questions.
And while today was about as open a goal as the leader of the opposition could possibly have asked for, his jokes at the expense of Boris Johnson and his Cabinet were A++.
And this was surely the best of the lot.
“The Charge of the Lightweight Brigade.”

Boom.
Charge of the light-weight brigade 👏

Starmer’s line about those Tories still prepared to fill Cabinet posts for Johnson – “the charge of the lightweight brigade”- is his best gag at PMQs ever.

Charge of the light weight brigade. Excellent political gag because it has a big ring of truth to it.

“The charge of the lightweight brigade.” A line from Starmer at PMQs about the cabinet which should join the list of Good Lines in political history.

“The charge of the lightweight brigade”
🤣🤣🤣 – Starmer’s panning of the front bench is superb. Who wrote that line?! I want to buy you a drink. 🍺

Even Johnson’s own front bench enjoyed it.

The ‘Z-list of nodding dogs’ was good too.
Starmer calls the remaining front bench "the charge of the lightweight brigade" and "a Z-list cast of nodding dogs". ZING. ~AA #PMQs pic.twitter.com/tPF2etoWKe

And also this!
"First recorded case of the sinking ship fleeing the rat" Starmer lands blow #bbcqt #Clownfall

And people reckoned it wasn’t just his best joke, it was his best PMQs to date.
By far the best #PMQs @Keir_Starmer has ever had. Magnificent. Prime Ministerial.

Starmer hasn't always been the best at PMQs but fair play, he's slamming home the open goal. Not sure I've ever seen a more comprehensive bodying

That was brutal for Johnson. Starmer mocking and vicious (this PM's his dying act, a pathetic spectacle) while also seeking to humiliate the wider cabinet (the z-list of nodding dogs). Frontbench looks beaten. Politics is ugly and brutish in times like this #PMQs
