A pregnant Texan protested a fine for using the car-sharing lane because her baby was the passenger

The overturning of Roe vs Wade by the Supreme Court has effectively given foetuses the rights of fully developed post-birth people, and one Texan woman – Brandy Bottone – tried to use that to her advantage.

The High Occupancy Vehicle lanes are an incentive for care sharing, to reduce congestion and pollution, so Brandy, who was using the HOV lane to get to her son’s school in time to pick him up, was given a $215 fine for the infringement.

She challenged the fine with the argument that legislators have already deemed her unborn child a person, and therefore a passenger.

Tweeters loved it.

Screenwriter Jon Spaihts had this to say.

Sadly not. They enforced the fine.
