This old Rishi Sunak clip will have you cringing into the next millennium
Rishi Sunak launched his Tory leadership bid with a super slick video that went viral for reasons you can read about over here.
I’m standing to be the next leader of the Conservative Party and your Prime Minister.
Let’s restore trust, rebuild the economy and reunite the country. #Ready4Rishi

Less slick, but far more interesting (and mercifully shorter), was this old clip of the wannabe PM from a BBC documentary back in 2001 in which he, well, best have a watch for yourself.

The clip’s been shared all over the place and here are our favourite things people said about it.
"can I shock you? I was at Winchester" https://t.co/w9v73f33q4

I don't think there are many comedy actors who could deliver this line as perfectly. https://t.co/FafATYUTag

Oh yeah, Rishi, I bet those inner-city state school teens were fucking blown away that you were a rich private school boy. https://t.co/qUX4Zq3vx8

"I go to see kids from an inner-city state school and tell them to apply to Oxford, and talk to them about people like me.
And then I shock them at the end of chatting to them for half an hour by telling them I was at Winchester, and one of my best friends is from Eton." https://t.co/ohilxwefLD

Some people thought it was unfair on the former chancellor because the clip is from 21 years ago.
What he said 20 years back doesn't matter now at all. One should give a chance to prove his capabilities. I sure he'll succeed.

And yet …
He pushes a view that he is from humble beginnings but he is not and this video reinforces that. He went to one of the most expensive private schools and as this video shows, he had little contact with working class people growing up.

And this.
FACT CHECK: Robert Jenrick said on R4 Today programme Sunak had a scholarship to Winchester College to justify describing him as having a 'relatively humble' background.
Sunak took the exams, didn't win a full scholarship, but his parents decided to pay to send him there anyway.
