Chris Bryant searingly summed up Boris Johnson’s record without pulling a single punch

Thursday’s episode of Question Time was the last until September, as parliament is about to go into recess – and the show kicked off with a question about the leadership race.

One of the guests, Labour’s Chris Bryant, wasted no time in pointing out the elephant in the room – the mystery of why Tory MPs supported Johnson for so long.

What was it they didn’t spot ages and ages ago?

It wasn’t just the lying to the Queen about suspending parliament illegally.

Or the partying and then lying about it.

Or trying to tear up the rule book to protect his friend Owen Paterson who had been found to be lobbying other MPs on behalf of his paying clients, who were giving him more than a hundred thousand pounds.

Or appointing a person he believed to be a sex pest to a senior important job in the whips office.

“You knew he was a wrong’un.”

Uncomfortable listening for Chris Bryant’s colleague, Tory MP Bim Afolami, but a refreshing change for many viewers.

As good as that was, he further sent the series off in style with a brutally honest response to a Brexiter in the audience, which – in no uncertain terms – set straight the record on Boris Johnson’s ‘big calls’.

‘Boris Johnson, earlier this year, was saying that inflation was not something to be worried about – and look what’s happening in the country.

Ever since 2014 …they’ve refused to deal with dodgy Russian money in the British economy and that has made us vulnerable and it’s emboldened Putin, so I don’t think he’s done right by Ukraine at all.

We don’t mind being ‘Well, actually‘ed when it’s that good.
