The terrible optics of this photo suggest the 1922 Committee still lives in 1922
On Wednesday afternoon, William Wragg – vice-chair of the 1922 Committee – shared a photo of a few of them ahead of the latest update on the Tory leadership race.
His fellow vice-chair, Nusrat Ghani, somehow got the job of pouring the tea, and the optics did not go down well – for a couple of reasons.
The only woman (an Asian one at that), in a servile role for all the white men.
This (bad) optic had to be intentional by #1922Committee https://t.co/A2dGRbWm7g

After seeing these reactions, we’re surprised that the tweet is still up.

There were a couple of other issues. This …
Astute political management to split the difference between the half of the Conservative coalition which believes 'teatime' starts at 3pm and the half that thinks it takes place at 5pm. https://t.co/h8pCL1Nx9i
