26 scathing downvotes for the BBC’s shambolic Tory leadership debate
In what Brenda from Bristol might describe as “Not another one!“, the prime ministerial candidates debated each other under the watchful eye of Sophie Raworth, before an audience of Conservative voters.
The BBC have kindly agreed to interview the remaining candidates to be my next lodger tonight. Let me know what you think of them… #BBCOurNextPM

With just an hour available, no topic was discussed in depth, but the pair argued about their economic plans, tried to present themselves as ordinary people, and scored Boris Johnson out of 10 for his prime ministerial chops.
Rishi Sunak just said Johnson was a 10/10 Prime Minister and the audience CLAPPED THAT SHIT.
I’m done. Going to bed. #BBCOurNextPM

Boris wasn’t the only b-word that saw them play fast and loose with the facts.
I love they both insisted they’re honest and when asked whether queues at Dover were down to Brexit they both screamed No. #BBCOurNextPM

Just days after parts of the UK were on fire, neither had a handle on climate change.
The answer on Climate change was pretty weak from both of them. They clearly have no idea of the scale….

Interviewer: What can we do about the world dying?
Rishi Sunak: Rinse your yogurt pots, erm, put a candle in a window…my daughters are the experts not me

To the relief of the nation, they touched on the really big question – whether Liz Truss agreed with Nadine Dorries that her £4.50 Claire’s Accessories earrings made her a more suitable candidate than Rishi Sunak’s designer suits do.
The BBC are questioning the future Prime Minister on the cost of their earrings and suits when there’s a Housing Crisis, Cost of Living Crisis, Climate Crisis, NHS Crisis and Education Crisis…
This is so embarrassingly out of touch.

Those brave souls who managed to endure the spectacle had plenty to say about it.

Here's a thought. Sunak has often come across as a bullying, condescending man who comfortably talks over women. Now have a look at the core Conservative membership. It *may* not have done him any harm…

BREAKING: The most horrifying moment of this leadership debate came when Liz Truss explained she has deleted Twitter from her phone, meaning we won't be getting any more selfies when she tries on hats 😭

Well I think that settled the big question – yes we are fucked. #BBCOurNextPM

It feels incredible that…
…these two are in the same party
…both were voted in on the same manifesto
…this isn't a general election debate
…only 160,000 voters will decide who wins#BBCOurNextPM— Martin Lewis (@MartinSLewis) July 25, 2022

Liz Truss seems to keep saying how bad it was when she was growing up in the 80s….that’ll be a decade when we had a Tory govt led by the person she keeps impersonating #leadership #BBCOurNextPM

I felt a great disturbance in the Force as if millions of voices suddenly cried out, "Jesus Christ these two are utterly reprehensible fuckwitted sociopaths," and turned the tv off.#BBCOurNextPM

And again Liz Truss keeps saying Levelling up and recession is personal to her because she experienced the pain or the 1980s and 90s in Paisley and Leeds. But somehow she doesn’t seem to be mentioning that was a period of conservative government.

The bar is so low that Liz Truss just got a round of applause for saying she's "honest and straight-talking" when she's very provable NEITHER of those things. What a diarrhoea fest this is. #BBCOurNextPM
