It’s finally happened. England has won a major football tournament, beating Germany 2-1 in a packed Wembley Stadium to become the UEFA Women’s Euros champions 2022.
The good wishes of the nation went into the stadium with the lionesses.

Good luck today @Lionesses – if you win, we promise to make this box art permament!#weuro2022

A lovely chip from Ella Toone put England in front.

Jill Scott’s relatable reaction to being fouled was no challenge to lipreaders.
Not been watching the football, but very happily been watching a loop of this video of Jill Scott saying "fuck off, you fucking prick!" Genuinely marvellous. pic.twitter.com/CpRtHNpAnH

Chloe Kelly scored in extra time to break the deadlock after Germany’s equaliser.
How sick is this photo of Chloe Kelly?
Her shirt perfectly showing her name as she spins it around.
Can't lie that sh*t is iconic 📸 pic.twitter.com/0FPgxrNHSk

What the @Lionesses have just done is amazing and so damned bloody hard to do. A seismic moment for Sport in this country! Well done to you all 🏴 ❤️⚽️

Football is a simple game. 22 women chase a ball for 90 minutes and, at the end, England actually win. Congratulations @lionesses. Fabulous.

What a performance over the last few weeks. So happy that my kids are experiencing an England football team winning a major tournament. pic.twitter.com/YUYA4IgN2Y

Jill Scott appearing in a slow motion replay screaming “fuck off, fucking prick” while beating Germany in a major final should make her clear front runner for sports personality of the year

Let's have no lazy comparisons with other teams. A brilliantly gutsy performance, a genius first goal, and they deserve every bit of hype theyre about to get.

What an epic win for the #Lionesses you did us all proud! 🏆 🏴🦁⚔️⚽️
So great to see everyone getting behind #womensfootball with a new record for the highest ever attendance at either a Men's or Women's European Championship final game 👊🏾#WEURO2022 #ENGGER @Lionesses

Crying. So brilliant. So important. Too emotional to articulate more. I am glad there are 7 year olds watching this who wanted to be a goalkeeper like I did! But didn’t think it was ‘appropriate’ or ‘allowed’ to voice it. Thank you Lionesses. #Lionesses

Of course, if, as children, the German team had been given football goals by their parents, things would be very different.

It’s a triumph for this amazing team, and, as the commentators said, for all the women that came before, women who had to fight to play, who had to pay to play – this is for all of them! #HerStoryIsHistory https://t.co/cBQBepPKBB
