A live broadcast about holiday chaos caught this Greek tragedy in the background
By happy accident, this one-act travel tragedy was caught on live TV, as a man learnt the hard way not to be too casual about timings at the Greek port of Piraeus.
By coincidence, the news item was about the upcoming pressure on the port when the Greek national holiday lands on 15th August, so anyone planning to join the biggest exodus of the year now knows to arrive early.
Reddit users were a little frustrated by the man’s error.
Jummmmmmmpppppppp!

He had so much time too. Just getting out of that cab with one bag took him forever.

If he didn’t spend the time to try to close the cab driver’s trunk, he would have made it. What a moron.

He just needed to step on! He almost had it! So frustrating to watch!

It’s a ship not a taxi. Move with a sense of urgency next time goofball.

A Redditor named Angelosnt had some local knowledge.
Anyone who takes a ferry from Piraeus knows that there’s an unending stream of people trying to get on when the boat is trying to sail. It’s what everyone watches from the deck at the back of the boat, with eager speculation as to who will make it.
These boats run on a ruthless schedule and won’t listen to anyone begging and screaming. Yes, I’ve begged and screamed, but… I’ve also jumped onto that moving ramp. Not missed a boat yet!
It was kind of inevitable that someone would say this.
I don’t understand, it’s all Greek to me.
