This old US embassy Brexit forecast has just gone wildly viral for reasons that will become obvious
As no-one anywhere needs reminding, Brexit hasn’t entirely delivered on the promises made by Boris Johnson and his fellow Brexiteers.
So much so, you might remember, that Jacob Rees-Mogg – the minister charged with finding a benefit – ANY BENEFIT – of Brexit – recently resorted to this.
“If you go through the Dartford Tunnel…we’ve got very funny numbers, and this is all because of an EU regulation.”

We mention it because this Brexit forecast by the US embassy has just gone wildly viral on Twitter. It’s from 2018 and taken from a Channel 4 documentary, and it really is quite the watch.
Here in 2018, US Embassy staff totally understand and discuss the Brexit catastrophe. 🤦🤦♂️🤦♀️ #BrexitReality #BrexitBenefits pic.twitter.com/BaCdlA2ncK

Nailed it.
And here are just a few of the things people were saying about it today.
1.
The funny thing is that the staff here aren’t displaying any special economic or political insight. They’re just saying what any competent person already knew. They’re describing what’s about to happen to a person who ten seconds ago jumped out of a plane without a parachute.

Just a lovely clear description of what the result of Brexit will be. Clear assessment of gov sticking fingers in ears. Nothing contentious or partisan, just a professional assessment. And it all, ALL, came true.

That’s both brilliant and utterly depressing. Bloody accurate anyway.

Of course, the Brexiteers knew all this too, they just didn’t want to hear it. Let alone tell anyone else the truth.
