Women have been sharing stories of ‘everyday sexism’ at work – 17 outrageous jaw-droppers
It all started with a tweet from Cathy Long – chief executive of Aposto and @Cathy_TwoHalves on Twitter – who went wildly viral with her tale of everyday sexism.
And it prompted women – lots of women – to share similar stories from their workplace and these 17 tales will have you hollering into next week, beginning with @Cathy_TwoHalves herself.

I just missed a client meeting cos I wasn’t invited to it. The client invited my male colleague but left me out….because he thought I was just doing the admin. I’m the CEO.
Don’t tell me @EverydaySexism is done. However unintentional it is costing me money

I’d a similar thing when I lived in Oz – reps from a co. came to mine, pitched to my male manager and ignored me completely. When they’d finished they asked him what he thought, “You have to ask Linda, this is her company.” Imagine their faces? I said ‘no thanks!’.

At a clients house finishing a fence job: her new boyfriend showed me the pergola, saying that it was an example of true carpentery, perfectly built…and *maybe someday* I would be skilled enough to build something like that.
I actually built the pergola the year before. pic.twitter.com/eGeZ6TnwN1

I was at a government conference a few years ago. The boss abruptly stopped a passing female staff member and asked (without humility) for photocopies to be done. She gracefully took the papers and introduced herself as the Minister for Science and Education. Smiling knowingly.

Walked into a QC’s office in my twenties “Sit Down!” he barked, thinking I was a junior. Twenty minutes later he asked “Where’s the bloody client?”. “I’m the bloody client” I replied. 😠

I was once one of two leading a meeting. My male colleague stood up & spoke first, the man next to me put his hand on my leg, leaned over and said in a voice he probably uses on his daughter ‘better make notes on this’ Mate, I don’t need to make notes on it, I wrote it all. pic.twitter.com/dJAr8E6Yuc

Snap! Was once asked what it was like being the token female in the band.
The band’s name? The Niamh Ní Charra Band.

I co-own a business. My business partner (male) ran a meeting with potential investor without me due to commitment juggling. When they proceeded to make derogatory comments about women in business he ended the call. Business is strong. Theirs? Not so much. Karma 👍🏼

I was a train conductor 6 years ago. Our train was held at York for a late connection from Edinburgh. The driver and I helped the passengers on, and then we set off. As I went down the train a bloke thanked me and my ‘Assistant’. ‘Where is she?’. ‘She’s driving the train, sir’.
