A Tory MP said teachers should go on strike during the summer holidays and was schooled into next year
Conserative MP Andrea Jenkyns – you remember, this one …

… was back in the news today after she complained about teachers going on strike in a long-running dispute over pay.
Not only that, she came up with a helpful suggestion that went viral, although not for reasons she was presumably hoping for (we’ve taken a screenshot just in case it ends up accidentally deleted).
And it prompted no end of responses as you might imagine. We’ve read them all – well, quite a few of them – so you don’t have to and here are our favourites.
1.
Yeah you idiots! Why not strike on your days off! That’ll show em 😂
(had to actually google @andreajenkyns to make sure she was a real MP & this wasn’t a parody account 😂).
Why doesn’t your government put children first and treat teachers with respect! https://t.co/ChbyqYbtB3— Jason Manford (@JasonManford) July 6, 2023

As a Cunk-esque masterpiece, "Why not combine your strike with a nice holiday?" is up there with "Where does your lap go when you stand up?" https://t.co/1UY8dJPCmA

Andrea goes to Alton Towers when it's closed to avoid the queues. https://t.co/smhP4cOKP2

Hiya Andrea, teachers are putting children first by striking. Part of what we're asking for is properly funded schools. This will mean more money for students and better lessons. At the moment, every time there is a pay rise, the money comes out of the classroom.

Why don't teachers strike at night when all the kids are in bed?
Absolute maniac x https://t.co/n6cYACtkrB

Exactly. And railway workers should only strike in the middle of the night when the trains aren’t running and doctors must only strike once they’ve retired. It makes total sense to me. https://t.co/6wkP9Lbvoh

Because if they did that Andrea, they'd have to cancel your apostrophe classes. And lessons in critical thinking. https://t.co/IAEl0GLhgS

Is this a parody account?

A senior UK Civil Servant said to me recently,
"The country is suffering under not just bad MPs but arguably some of the stupidest we have ever seen"
"For example" I said. He didn't even pause,

Or on Sundays?
My God she’s dense.
And for the record, teachers worked throughout lockdown. https://t.co/dkXBDJAD3p

What these MPs are trying to do here is play into the misguided idea that Teachers have loads of holiday time.
But MPs have 110 'recess' days (that's holidays in Private School talk) plus bank holidays
They're amongst the most overpaid and unproductive workers in the UK https://t.co/rsYMR1udCr

To conclude.
Not to alarm anyone but this cretin was briefly an education minister when no one else would serve under Johnson (and she was of course kept on by Truss).
