Dara Ó Briain had a most important clarification to one message of support for the Edinburgh act with just one person in the audience
You might very well have seen by now the fabulous tale of the Edinburgh performer who went on Twitter after performing her show to just one person.
Not the fact there was only one person in the audience, obviously, but the outpouring of support and kind words – not typically associated with Twitter – that followed for Georgie Grier.
There was one person in my audience today when I performed my one woman play, ‘Sunsets’ at #edfringe. It’s fine, isn’t it? It’s fine…? 🥹 pic.twitter.com/D0lfAsMMz0

It prompted all supports of responses from lots of people, of which these are just a flavour.
First trip overseas @bret_rospective and I played a show to 1 in Vancouver. Didn't find out till the end that they'd left during the show. We based a scene in our tv show on it. Years later we did the pretty much the same show at the Hollywood Bowl to around 18,000 people. https://t.co/JojILA8Q95

That person is going to have a fantastic anecdote in a few years time when you’re constantly on the Telly
I once traveled for 6 hours to give a 90 minute talk to, what turned out to be, only 7 people. We all went to the pub after – it was nice actually. Keep going, keep growing

Years ago Bill Bailey and Sean Lock did an Edinburgh show called Rock. One performance had only one audience member. They went out to apologise for cancelling and it turned out to be a fellow comic who hadn't paid. He asked them to go ahead anyway. https://t.co/EJ9Hw3WVeR

YOU ARE AMAZING Georgie, don't ever let any situation, experience or person ever make you feel differently. 🥰🥰🥰

Just wanted to lend our support and tell you we've all been there.
Our first time at the #edfringe, Big Bear and I were performing our #GetUpAndGo childrens show to just one person, an adult. Mid-show I turned to get my guitar to play a song, and the one audience member left. pic.twitter.com/gJSsl7gBFG— Dave Benson Phillips (@DaveBensonPhill) August 4, 2023
Another message came in from the great Dara Ó Briain.
We’ve ALL done it. Soon, you’ll dine out on this anecdote. More than once I had to buy my audience a drink, as a thank you for being the only ones there. Best thing though, it’s all stage time, and the show will get better every single time, ready for the big crowds later!

Thank you so much 🥹♥️
— Georgie Grier (@georgie_grier) August 3, 2023
And it turned out Dara also spotted this, from another well wisher.
If it doubles every day then by the end of the fringe you’ll be sold out. Good luck tomorrow.
— Simon (@simon3862) August 3, 2023
And his clarification made the whole thing even better.
If it doubles every day Simon, by the end she’ll need a room that seats 134 Million people. Not sure Edinburgh has one of them.

Fabulous!
It's that chess board and rice thing, isn't it? Maybe that's why Sunak's allocating public money for them to be painted on playgrounds.
— Three 🇺🇦 🇺🇦 🇺🇦 (@ThreeWomen_) August 3, 2023
That is EXACTLY what that is.
— Dara Ó Briain (@daraobriain) August 3, 2023
Despite what the teachers wrote on my reports, I paid attention at school! 😂
— Three 🇺🇦 🇺🇦 🇺🇦 (@ThreeWomen_) August 3, 2023
We’re off to Google chessboard and rice, but if it’s put you in the mood for this sort of thing, here are 17 other times Dara made our day better on Twitter.
Last word to @georgie_grier.
Thank you so much for your support today. For anyone asking about my #edfringe show, my one woman play is ‘Sunsets’. It’s about rom coms but also family. I’d love to have you there. I’m performing until the 27th at @Gildedballoon at 12.20pm. Thank you xx https://t.co/31fL7wGioc pic.twitter.com/2rxgsOF6Zk
