A Tory MP said it was their ‘duty to stand up for things that are divisive and promote hatred’ and it was a most unfortunate slip of the tongue
We’ve already featured Conservative MP and science secretary Michelle Donelan and the fabulous way in which interviewer Victoria Derbyshire deconstructed the Tories’ claim to be the ‘party of facts’.
And we mention it again because of this most unfortunate slip of the tongue towards the end of the exchange, highlighted by @BestForBritain, and it makes for quite the listen.
Cabinet minister Michelle Donelan is so frazzled she ended up saying: "I believe that we should stand up for things that are divisive, and promote hatred."

I actually couldn't believe my ears and thought I had misheard. Then it struck me – this is the most concise and honest description of Tory policy ever uttered – and delivered by a member of the cabinet to boot.

Pretty sure Donelan needed counseling after this interview. Victoria Derbyshire did not hold back. It's how it should be done, she puts so many others to shame….. https://t.co/AiOdyBQZOj

Incredible. A Tory being honest that they are divisive and promote hatred. Also she’ll get back to her
