Brian Cox signed off Newsnight for 2023 in delightfully NSFW Logan Roy style
Newsnight, which is set to lose around 30 staff and a significant chunk of its running time, signed out for the year in style on Friday, with this short message from actor Brian Cox – or more accurately, Logan Roy.
As ever, we’re grateful to Scott Bryan for sharing the moment.
Well, that’s one way to end Newsnight pic.twitter.com/VkCbydZT5Z

The irony of its contrast with the Maryam Moshiri row wasn’t lost on Scott.
Do find it very British that one accidental swearing incident in a news show results in multiple apologies, but another show where they do it intentionally is fine.

Predictably, some people weren’t happy about the language.
Was this real? On the national broadcaster to which I give £159 each year? I hope he won’t be paid for this appearance. https://t.co/2JxRUCyQLe

What actually has happened to the BBC? https://t.co/SSkj4gioCn
— Ian Waugh (@iwaugh) December 16, 2023
S'pose, it was all planned as someone at the BBC thought we wanted or needed to hear that.

Most of those who commented were a lot more positive.

With this and the middle finger news lady, I find the licence fee more palatable. More of this please.

This is the first time I've watched any of Newsnight in about fifteen hundred years. Anyway, everyone should love Brian Cox as much as I do. (The proper Brian Cox not that other one.) https://t.co/XXlm4uWPge

Inevitably, some viewers will simply have been very confused.
People who haven't seen Succession are going to be so confused…
