This Scottish voter’s NSFW response to a Tory candidate on his doorstep just went wildly viral and it’s quite the watch
To the election now – you’ve been missing it, right? – and this Conservative candidate on the west coast of Scotland who encountered a particularly lively response from one voter and decided to share it on Twitter.
And it went viral because as a snapshot of the state we find ourselves in now, you’d struggle to do any better, managing to be both rather glorious and incredibly sad all at the same time.
Today, while putting up #GE2024 posters, I met this civic and joyous gentleman who wished to share his views. I’ll put him down as a maybe. #YouYesYet #Skye pic.twitter.com/r4bqk0NCdD

Here’s a little bit more of what @Ruraidh_Stewart had to say, responding to people on Twitter.
Ruraidh, I’m really sorry you had to put up with that. It must have been very unpleasant, I know what it feels like to be on the receiving end of that kind of anger. You have the same right as anybody else to stand for election and participate in democracy free of abuse.

Thank you, Kate. It’s easy to forget that behind the rosette is a real person with family and friends, trying to do what they believe is right for our community.

And behind the voter is possibly somebody who has truly suffered under the government you want him to support. Understand rather than mock.

Precisely that, we reckon.
And all of this!

Yes, I’d say that’s a maybe… https://t.co/DUFJRNdCsF

His real anger comes from a a deep place. It illustrates just how cruel the Tories have been and how absolutely frustrated and angry people feel. If you say he’s rude then look at what the Tories have done to our society in 14 years and then ask who is more nasty.

People are angry and it’s entirely understandable that they are not going to be rational.
Yet, rather than try and understand the man, he reacts with typical Tory condescension and films it as if it’s some kind of flex— Skeets (@utter_hogwash) June 7, 2024

Man belongs to a party that breaks people, then is shocked when they’ve fucking well had enough of twats like him. https://t.co/meRbHT26wm

And finally, this.
Tell me, Mr Stewart – did you get consent from this gentleman to use this recording where he is clearly identifiable?
