Politics election Esther mcvey
Esther McVey told constituents the Tory party ‘always gets the country back on its feet’ and their hilarious response was simply magnificent
The Conservatives’ minister for common sense Esther McVey has been out on the campaign trail trying to win over the hearts and minds of her Tatton constituency, historically a safe Tory seat.

But by the looks of this particular question and answer it’s not going entirely well.
It’s McVey telling there mom that the Conservative Party can always be relied upon to get the country back on its feet. And it’s fair to say the room wasn’t necessarily buying it.

We never thought we’d feel sorry for Esther McVey. And we were right.

Oh dear. The title Minister for Common Sense was always a hostage to fortune, giving it to @EstherMcVey1 was bound to lead to this. https://t.co/qWLUvRQYiI

McVey’s seen the writing on the wall and is carving out a new career in stand-up

What’s not to love about this audience openly laughing at this absolute fucking clown of a woman. https://t.co/W9w6G7fd82

Didn’t realise McVey did comedy. At least she has something to fall back on when she gets kicked out of Tatton on the 4th July. #VoteLabour https://t.co/4OUZo0mu9j

It’s the look of shock on her face. She’s not shocked she’s lying, she’s shocked us commoners have worked it out.

Laughter. The second best medicine.
The first is voting. https://t.co/QlNd9HRoH8— Stephen McGann (@StephenMcGann) June 9, 2024
And just in the interests of balance and all that, here’s how the local constituency’s Labour candidate was getting on.
In total contrast, deafening applause for the Labour candidate Ryan Jude stating it’s a two horse race in Tatton – there is a genuine, credible alternative to Esther McVey – come on Tatton voters. pic.twitter.com/BY9Gw1riyg
