The Liberal Democrats launched their manifesto in a theme park. Where else? 15 thrilling reactions
The Liberal Democrats have launched their election manifesto, making them the first of the main parties to do so.
“We are putting forward a bold, ambitious and fully-costed plan to tackle the health and care crisis from top to bottom.
“This is a manifesto to save the NHS."@EdwardJDavey #ForAFairDeal pic.twitter.com/3OTHkrLMbG

Today I unveiled our manifesto – For a Fair Deal.
Health and social care are at the heart of our manifesto – every vote for the Liberal Democrats at this election is a vote to elect a strong local champion who will fight every day for the NHS and care. pic.twitter.com/sKMIq2lWeF

Key pledges include –
8,000 more GPs in the system.
Free personal care for the elderly and disabled.
A mental health professional in every school.
A National Food Strategy to address rising prices.
A Home Energy Upgrade programme to help with fuel costs.
Banning bonuses for water company executives and creating a new regulator to end the sewage dumping scandal.
They are also keeping their long-term resolution to introduce proportional representation.
After Ed Davey‘s antics had a lot of people joking that the launch would happen in a theme park, the party had the opportunity to do the funniest thing.

If the Conservative campaign is adhering to the script of 'Yes, Minister', the Lib Dem campaign appears to be one of those 70s sitcom movies where the entire cast randomly goes on holiday, purely so everyone involved in making it gets a free trip out of the production budget https://t.co/bRn0Ts5qMk

Seriously though, in the performance art that is the Lib Dem leader’s tour, an actual “big swing” was always going to feature.
It’s how they’re going to organise a landslide that worries me. https://t.co/N7YuRTF7oq— Dr Nigel Fletcher (@nigelfletcher) June 10, 2024
We don’t know if this was definitely behind the choice of ride, but hats off to the comms team either way.
