Rishi Sunak said he had to go without Sky TV as a kid and was mocked into next year – 17 funniest and totally on-point responses
Just when you think Rishi Sunak’s election campaign can’t possibly get any worse, the beleaguered PM goes and opens his mouth and, well, you can guess the rest.
This time it was his ITV interview with Paul Brand – you remember, the one for which he left the D-Day commemorations early to rush back to the UK.
And boy was it worth it! No, seriously, was it worth it?
Not if this clip was anything to go by, in which Sunak was asked if he could relate to peoples day to day struggles. Sunak said he went without lots of things as a kid and – pressed repeatedly to name just one of them – he came up with this.

This is so moving. Rishi Sunak had to go without “sky TV” growing up. I hope this now silences the haters who finally realise why it was so important the PM left D Day early. He had to tell his truth. https://t.co/KaHnzwTerh

The panic in the eyes; the frantic mental scramble to think of anything he had to do without. Finally he has to say something. “Sky TV” Will have to do. Even though in its first few years, only the poshest families had Sky. It’s exquisite. His “fields of wheat”. https://t.co/PaGU8vLePu

I thought he was talking about going without the basic Sky package, but he was actually talking about a failed takeover of BSkyB. https://t.co/eZT2DrFWf8
