Twitter election Martin lewis Rishi Sunak
The Tories took a Martin Lewis clip out of context and his comeback was sheer perfection
Everyone loves money saving expert Martin Lewis right? And only a fool would try to lift something he said out of context for political gain.
Which is where we say, hello, Conservative Party! Which tweeted this clip of Lewis from ITV’s Good Morning Britain to suggest Labour ‘weren’t telling the truth’ about their tax plans when, sorry, if they win the election.
They’re not telling you the full truth.
Labour have said they wouldn’t put up your taxes. But it’s now becoming clear that they have every intention to put them up pic.twitter.com/0XnasgrX6s

Here’s a screen grab in the unlikely event the Tories do the decent thing and delete it.
Except if you watch the clip it becomes immediately apparent that it was taken entirely out of context and it’s fair to say Lewis wasn’t having it, he really wasn’t having it at all.
NO WHERE in this comment do I talk about taxes. And the policy that I discussed (i will keep private as it was private) was NOT about taxes, or tax rises, it was about something that would be a positive change. https://t.co/OejPZ5bmJv

And here’s exactly what people made of that.
“have the Tories pick a fight with Martin Lewis, and then…..”
“…..some rest master?”
“and then get me a Crunchie” https://t.co/3dsNhMBO4n pic.twitter.com/Hs5cLWMxWD

The Conservative campaign is baffling. ‘Trust’ is a huge issue, and yet the campaign continues to specifically push things that are untrustworthy.

Martin Lewis has been rated the most trusted voice in the U.K. The Tory party, rather the opposite. https://t.co/nRmkcKjKEF

Should sue for deliberate misrepresentation

Why would you do this? Why would you go after one of the (at least) top five most trusted and liked people in the country? One who *they know* has absolutely no problem calling out people who try and take him out of context? https://t.co/DOcEV4VeUV

Community Note incoming on the @Conservatives tweet Martin.

Short of attacking Princess Anne, @MartinSLewis is about the last person in the UK you want to start attacking, but the Con campaign is desperate. If you cite a non-political person in a political ad, work out in advance what their response to that is going to be like. Duh https://t.co/zdoLpIwIvR
