‘Miss Merkel’ imagines the former German Chancellor as an amateur sleuth – what a time to be alive

A lot of politicians are currenty trying to work out what to do next, and their options range from whatever they were trained for to featuring in a fly-on-the-wall docuseries. That last one’s Jacob Rees-Mogg, by the way.

We doubt that any of them have plans to become an amateur detective, since many of the ones that lost their seats were apparently unable to identify a party by the presence of alcohol, party food and dancing, but that’s the premise of the German made-for-TV film Miss Merkel – Ein Uckermark-Krimi.

It came to the attention of Twitter/X after @ilvit02 shared this ad for the Italian-dubbed version.

Author John Bleasdale shared it for the English-speaking crowd, albeit with a slight misunderstanding.

It’s actually two separate German made-for-television films, both set in the Uckermark region of Germany and featuring Katharina Thalbach as the Chancellor-turned-sleuth.

The concept was an instant hit. Here’s how people reacted.
