MAGAs have been thanking God for protecting Donald Trump and the internet replied as one
The shockwaves are still reverberating from the assasination attempt on Donald Trump at the weekend, with President Joe Biden urging the US to reject ‘extremism and fury’.
FBI officials are still trying to determine the possible motive of the 20-year-old suspected gunman, Thomas Matthew Crooks from Bethel Park, Pennsylvania.
The attack – which left one spectator dead and two critically injured – prompted no end of responses and conspiracy theories on Twitter as you might imagine. And – perhaps almost as predictably – a never-ending stream of MAGAs and the like saying it was God wot saved Trump.
Like Florida senator Marco Rubio, for instance.

Fox News mouthpiece Tomi Lahren.
God intervened to save our President’s life. This was divine intervention.
Shame on all those who have consistently called Trump an existential threat. Shame on all those who continue to call him Hitler and a racist and a dictator. Shame.

And Texas governor, Greg Abbott.
Had it been less than a half inch to the right, he would not have survived.

And the internet replied as one. Well, most of it did.
yeah the Lord guided that bullet right into one of his supporters https://t.co/jsUQqXI1oc

But he didn’t intervene at Uvalde?

I love the implication that every school shooting victim simply was not graced by god https://t.co/jwTR94xKsT

To conclude …
If you believe God intervened to save former President Trump, but didn’t intervene to save the kids in Uvalde or Parkland or Santa Fe or Sandy Hook, then you are worshipping partisan politics, not Jesus.

And this.
This is a fucking insane thing to say when one of the bullets that missed Trump went directly into the brain of an audience member https://t.co/dWf6mqoLhJ

And this.
Worst take is in.

And finally, this.
Whatever your feelings about the Trump shooting, it’s worth pointing out that if a Secret Service team can’t protect a presidential candidate, maybe expecting Mrs. Krabappel to protect her 4th grade students from an active shooter is unrealistic.

At the risk of it goes without saying, our condolences to everyone affected by the truly horrific events.
