22 pet peeves in films that could have you reaching for the off switch
It definitely isn’t just us sitting there with gritted teeth as films and TV play fast and loose with what’s reasonable. How many times, for example, have you seen people arrange to go out for dinner, but not decide on a time and a place? Irritating!
Anyway, comedian and actor Laraine Newman got people talking about that sort of thing with this question.
What’s your pet peeve in movies and TV. Like people not answering the phone or taking a pill without water etc?

We found ourselves nodding along to these pet peeves.
1.
Actors sipping any beverage during a dialogue scene — especially beer from a bottle — rarely take a sip and swallow anything. They almost always just mime it, and you can tell. Drives me batty. https://t.co/j8UzSB6csd

Helicopters appearing over a small rise and no one in the scene heard it coming.

People, usually lawyers and law-people, working late, eating Chinese Food out of cartons with chopsticks and making loud eating sounds.

What really bothers me is when someone is holding a styrofoam take-out tray with 4 "full" coffee cups–and they're holding it by the edge with 1 hand. Obviously the cups are empty, but if they were full that would be 3-4 lbs. of coffee and it would end up in a puddle on the floor. pic.twitter.com/NZPOPoUByC

Making out first thing in the morning without brushing their teeth.

When somebody wants to snoop around they ask if they can use the bathroom

I want to know how every apartment, townhome, and roadside motel has a pristine antique claw foot tub in the bathroom.

People taking off their glasses to look at something shocking. You're not going to see better. It makes ZERO SENSE and it takes me RIGHT OUT. https://t.co/HoXvS4G8bq pic.twitter.com/f79BMFLeuh

ultra-telegraphed foreshadowing. early in the movie someone says "cell phones don't work on this bridge" and then the big finale takes place on the bridge. (it's usually added later in ADR too, bcz one person at the test screening was confused.) https://t.co/DbLK4O7aza

Biologically inaccurate sounds. Every time an eagle cries, it's actually a red-tailed hawk most of the time. Husband was watching a recently-filmed show set in the Southwestern desert and all the bird sounds were from Eastern forest birds. Drives me absolutely insane. https://t.co/giYNIRv6xx
