The Cut’s terrible idea of a suitable follow-up to the Derry Girls had the internet awash with inappropriate viewing tips – 19 favourites

The New York Magazine culture section The Cut had the internet open-mouthed, recently, with this attempt to conflate two very different TV shows.

Missing ‘Derry Girls’? Try ‘Say Nothing,’ FX’s captivating series about the Troubles in Northern Ireland, based on Patrick Radden Keefe’s book of the same name.

Anyone unfortunate enough to follow their tip is in for a shock.

The geography may match up, but a hilarious coming-of-age comedy about teens navigating The Troubles – as well as growing pains and life in general – does not make a good appetiser for a harrowing story about the real-life kidnap and murder of a woman by paramilitaries in the 1970s.

Their gaffe may have been excruciating, but it gave people the chance to come up with their own inappropriate recommendations – and these were outstanding in their field.
