Simply 13 times departing Match of the Day presenter Gary Lineker made our day so much better on Twitter
As if you haven’t already seen by now, Gary Lineker is leaving BBC1’s Match of the Day.
He’ll stay on the show until the end of this season and will be back for the 2026 World Cup, so his detractors (and indeed his many fans) haven’t seen the last of him just yet.
Which seemed as good an excuse as any to look back on 13 times the great man made our day so much better on Twitter.
1. ‘When he chose a spectacularly NSFW way to check if Alan Shearer could hear him’
God I wish that would have been aired pic.twitter.com/GU46lbDdAC

2. ‘When he had the pitch perfect response for a Daily Mail reporter on his doorstep and they published it in full (well, sort of)’
3. ‘When he fabulously owned Frank Lampard (and his dawning realisation made it even better)’
Gary Lineker has just absolutely bodied Frank Lampard on live TV Lampards face is killing me. The fume pic.twitter.com/cGmdAHnvjO

4. ‘When Jonathan Gullis challenged him to stand for Parliament’
Yet another breach of the BBC’s impartiality rules by @GaryLineker.
But, sadly, spineless Tim Davie will do nothing about it, having surrendered to Lineker previously.

Jonathan hasn’t read the new guidelines….or, should I say, had someone read them to him? https://t.co/bxxxbj5Twb
