Donald Trump felt compelled to explain what he meant by ‘ruler’ and it’s even funnier (more frightening) written down

Donald Trump’s been wanging on about making Canada the 51st state of America yet again, and it’s probably tricky to understand just how intensely irritating and unnerving it must be unless you are Canadian.

There’s something about the border which really gets Trump’s goat, and not just because it exists.

Here he is going on about it again, and it’s the bit where he feels compelled to explain what he means by ‘ruler’ which really gets us. Funny and frightening – world’s most powerful person? – in just about equal measure.

And here is whatever the hell that was in full, and it’s even worse (so much better) written down.

‘Trump: You know, you have that artificial line because it is straight artificial and look like it was drawn by a ruler.

‘I don’t mean a ruler like a king but a ruler like a ruler this way.

‘It is just an artificial line that was drawn in the sand. In the ice. You add that to this country and what a beautiful landmass anywhere in the world. It was cut off for whatever reason. It would be great.’

And here are just a few of the many things people were saying about it.
