Donald Trump’s response to the top secret war plans leak wasn’t the slam-dunk he thought it was – 17 stunned responses
There’s only one story in town today after senior members of Donald Trump’s administration accidentally shared top secret war plans with a journalist.
The highly sensitive military strategy was sent to Jeffrey Goldberg, the editor in chief of the Atlantic, who appeared to be inadvertently looped in on a group chat with vice president JD Vance and secretary of defence Pete Hegseth.
‘Extraordinary’ doesn’t even begin to capture it.
BBC News, “The Whitehouse has confirmed it has inadvertently added a journalist to a group chat discussing classified plans to bomb Yemen”
“It’s an extraordinary breach of security with America’s entire national security group, including the vice president” pic.twitter.com/2Uyn3ywhBi

So naturally the world turned to Donald Trump to ask how this could possibly have happened, what he made of it all – and whose heads were going to roll, right?
And it’s fair to say his answer wasn’t the slam-dunk he presumably thought it was.
Trump on his cabinet members using Signal to text war plans to a reporter: “I don’t know anything about it. I’m not a big fan of The Atlantic. To be it’s a magazine that’s going out of business. But I know nothing about it. You’re saying that they had what?” pic.twitter.com/cBl0g40tsm

And while this sort of thing is starting to get just a little bit predictable, it was no less the jaw dropping for it. And these responses surely say it all.
1.
If Trump doesn’t know about a major incident involving his VP, Chief of Staff, NatSec Advisor, Secretary of State, Secretary of Defense, Director of National Intelligence, and CIA Director, then who exactly is running the government?

So Trump’s defense of a massive national security breach is that he has no idea what’s happening.
Cool.

Every. Single. Time. Their go-to is always attack the media outlet. And yet, officials in his own administration already confirmed the story is accurate. https://t.co/oBU77xSRpJ

The classic Trump defense: pretend he knows nothing while attacking the messenger.

If it’s true that the President of the United States had no idea that his war cabinet and VP were discussing war plans on a Signal chat that included a journalist, that is astounding ignorance and profound incompetence. https://t.co/3V9gkCf1rM

He’s not actually in charge of anything. He shows up, he shits on Biden, signs a couple of executive orders he hasn’t read, and then goes golfing. https://t.co/Wx54LuE1EI
