‘Everyone romanticises the nineties, but I remember supermarkets back then having much less choice and the quality of things like bread and cheese weren’t as good. Much less foreign produce or exotic stuff as well. It also wasn’t too cheap either.’

‘Architecture and planning in our city centres. Sure councils may be too strapped to clean things properly, but there’s been a lot of regeneration work, removal of major roads and bypasses cutting through city centres, new parks, pedestrianised areas and green spaces, nicer buildings replacing crappy post-war office blocks, modern and spacious apartments, redeveloped industrial buildings.’

‘Dentistry. Not necessarily access unfortunately but the service itself.
‘Compared to my childhood where most dentists were very old school and didn’t seem to care at best or were malicious at worst. Nowadays they are a lot kinder, softer and gentler, they will reassure you, they will talk to you not lecture at you, they will explain things in a way you can understand rather than just jargon you to death. They treat you like a living person not a slab of meat with teeth. It’s much better than it was.’

‘Littering has seriously improved throughout my lifetime, and it’s genuinely something be proud about.’
