US europe JD Vance Pete hegseth
Turns out JD Vance hates us ‘European freeloaders’ even more than we thought and this A++ comeback spoke volumes
Much of the focus on that most unfortunate White House security balls-up was naturally on how on earth it happened, who was responsible, and how they’ll make sure it doesn’t happen again.
But let’s not lose sight of what we actually learned from the exchanges between senior White House types including defence secretary Pete Hegseth and vice president, JD Vance, among others.
And it turns out that they hate Europeans even more than we thought he did (and we already thought it was quite a lot). Here are the pair of them slagging off ‘European freeloaders’ in the discussion about impending military action, and the words really do speak for themselves.
‘I fully share your loathing of European free-loading. It’s PATHETIC.’
Makes you feel all gooey inside. With allies like these, who needs enemies?
And the insight prompted no end of totally on-point responses …
JD Vance truly hates Europe. Funny because Europe also hates him pic.twitter.com/lBAQqWLvQu

JD Vance: ‘if you think we should do it let’s go. I just hate bailing Europe out again”
Hegseth: “VP: I fully share your loathing of European free-loading. It’s PATHETIC."
Another wake up call for a real European Defence..when will EU leaders act? pic.twitter.com/q43qmuP1IR

JD Vance, Pete Hegseth and probably all the other members of the Trump administration LOATHE Europe. This is evident from their private and public messages. They are no longer our allies, and we can't rely on them.
It's time to be European and buy European. pic.twitter.com/SNBqQeiMWj

Trump admin priorities laid bare in leaked Signal group chat.
1. Hatred for Europe
2. Protect Saudi interests
3. Extort EuropeThis administration is Putin's ultimate fantasy. pic.twitter.com/jARzKgqcJl

… but surely no-one said it better than this, a chap called Andrew Fox who describes himself on Twitter as ‘Did some Army stuff, some lecturing, now do research and writing.’
Here’s a picture of me, a European, security freeloading in Afghanistan as part of a US Army special forces task force.
Look! They even gave me a special “freeloader” badge to wear above my medals.
12 close friends and colleagues killed when they were there freeloading too. pic.twitter.com/T7bW91rIPN

And here’s just a little bit of the awe and admiration that prompted.
I'm grateful and neither make excuses for nor understand the madness we're living through. My offer of an IRL brew will never expire.

I'm waiting for the first Yank to say to my face I was freeloading in Iraq & Afghan, my response will not be diplomatic or measured.
I'm convinced Trump's crew has no concept of how much they've destroyed any allied cooperation.

I'm an American and I appreciate you and your service. Thank you.

And then of course there was this person.
Don’t intentionally misinterpret what he’s saying to fit an agenda. He’s very narrowly talking about things like free speech (it’s nonexistent in places like Germany and the UK) and the absolute insistence on perpetuating another forever war in Ukraine.

“Free speech is non existent”

To conclude …
We’re really not talking about how JD Vance and Pete Hegseth were calling Europe freeloaders enough. pic.twitter.com/SEEMFlrWi1
